Mathematics Education

Graphs

Welcome to the Open University’s hub for Mathematics Education. Mathematics Education is the field of knowledge and research that considers how people think about mathematics, how they learn it and how they teach it.   It includes aspects of psychology, sociology, philosophy and history - all studied through the lens of mathematics. Mathematics education concerns the relationship of mathematics and people, including comparisons of mathematics in different cultures, and how mathematics is used to make a difference in the world.

With such a broad knowledge base, teachers and mathematics enthusiasts always have something new to learn.

Our mathematics education research and study materials:

• Inform what teachers do in classrooms;

• Help teachers deepen their knowledge about students and teaching, up to degree and PhD level;

• Help teachers and parents learn about the mathematics relevant to schools, from nursery up to age 18.
