The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) is part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). EPSRC allocate funding for Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTP) using an algorithm based on a variety of criteria including grants awarded to the institution.

The Open University Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) currently holds an EPSRC DTP award covering the following subject areas:

  • General Engineering
  • IT, Systems Sciences and Software Engineering
  • Mathematical Sciences
  • Physics

As EPSRC research areas span across all 6 schools and 1 institute within the STEM faculty, the grant is administered centrally by the STEM Research, Enterprise and Scholarship Team (stem-research-student-support@open.ac.uk).

For more information on funding opportunities through this DTP see EPSRC DTP Funding or contact the EPSRC DTP Team. For general information on the terms and conditions of UKRI funding, see  the UKRI Training Grants Terms and Conditions.

OU EPSRC DTP Internship student feedback

Three of our vacation internship students (2022) gave us permission to share their feedback about being an intern:

  • “Go for it. It is a fantastic experience, put everything in and you will get double returned back to you. A brilliant experience but be ready to learn!” Anne-Marie McHugh
  • “I can even say that the internship exceeded my expectations! ….The organisation, project management, time efficiency and the topic itself were amazing and altogether accounted for a great experience.” Julia Jakiela
  •  “I learned a lot about research, academic writing and about working in academia in general, I also expanded my knowledge drastically on the subject area.” Katy Gunter
