Current opportunities

The ESPRC Doctoral Prize Fellowship is a prestigious scheme aimed at the best recent PhD students whose PhD studies were funded in part or entirely by the EPSRC. It allows students to launch their research career by providing salary funding for 12 months beyond the point of PhD submission. Applications now open. Closing date: 15 January, 2024 - 12:00 

Our next PhD studentship intake is October 2024, adverts for EPSRC related projects shall appear on the OU vacancies page between December 2023 – January 2024.  

EPSRC’s Vacation Internship scheme gives undergraduate students a taster of what it is like to do research. Look out for Vacation Internship adverts on the OU vacancies page in early April 2024. 


About the DTP

The Open University Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) currently holds an EPSRC DTP award covering the following subject areas:

  • General Engineering
  • IT, Systems Sciences and Software Engineering
  • Mathematical Sciences
  • Physics

As EPSRC research areas span across all 6 schools and 1 institute within the STEM faculty, the grant is administered centrally by the STEM Research, Enterprise and Scholarship Team (stem-research-student-support@open.ac.uk). 

The EPSRC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) funds PhD studentships, Vacation Internships and Doctoral Prizes.
