Haider Ali: Understanding Money (29 May 2025)

This session is led by Haider Ali, Senior Lecturer in Marketing, who is also a micro-credential director, private investor, and former small business owner. It will provide a platform to share experiences and offer valuable insights about money that you might not have heard before. Topics will range from getting out of debt to starting your investment journey-without any false promises.

OU Black STEM Hub – Navigating Employability in STEM (Part 2) (8 May)

Are you a Black STEM student exploring career challenges? Join the Black STEM Hub team and Open University ALs Tema and Terry as they continue to share their STEM journeys and insights.

Hear real experiences, practical advice, and connect with other Black STEM students at the OU.

What’s on:

  • Discussion: Career opportunities, rejection, breaking into STEM, personal challenges, and advice
  • Employability Insights: Resources and opportunities, including BBSTEM
  • Q&A: Ask your questions and get guidance

This is a safe and supportive space for Black students to share experiences, ask questions, and gain practical guidance for your STEM career.


OU Black STEM Hub Community – Navigating Employability in STEM (27 March 2025)

Are you a Black STEM student navigating the challenges of employability? Join us for an insightful discussion on career-building in STEM as a Black individual. This event will provide valuable insights, real experiences, and practical advice from current and former OU students, as well as professionals in the field. Hear from ALs Tema and Terry, PhD student Sally, and the two student interns, Nia and Djibril and their stories in this area.

Catrin from the Careers and Employability Services (CES) will share how CES supports students, what resources are available and gather feedback to shape a future bespoke session based on the needs of Black STEM students.

Students will also be welcome to ask questions and share their own stories throughout the event.

This is a safe and supportive space to share experiences, ask questions, and gain practical guidance for your STEM career.


OU Black STEM Hub: Impostor Syndrome (27 February 2025)

Are you a Black STEM student who has ever struggled with impostor syndrome? You're not alone. Join us for an engaging discussion where we unpack the challenges of being Black in STEM with current and previous OU students.

What to Expect:

  • A chance to discuss your own experience so far
  • Real stories & advice from our fantastic guest speakers
