Volunteering & Outreach Opportunities

We offer opportunities for Black Students to volunteer with us. This can look different for each volunteer depending on the time you can offer. Volunteering opportunities include co-creating the Black STEM Hub, assisting at our monthly online sessions, and many other exciting opportunities. We want to help you, too. Let us know what skills you’d like to gain from a volunteering experience.

Academic mentoring support for OU black students

For many black students, gaining a ‘good’ degree can often be a significant challenge. This challenge can be due to a myriad of personal and / or academic reasons. Subsequently, finding and securing a ‘good’ job, related to their degree, can equally be difficult.

At the OU, there are many sources of help for students to overcome these issues, including engaging with tutors, student support services teams, and peers. However, having a mentor (i.e., someone who can advise and guide), has been shown to be an especially invaluable approach to support black students.
