Riasat Islam is currently an Associate Lecturer and PhD Candidate at The Open University. His research aims to revolutionize physiotherapy by using wearable haptic devices to support rehabilitation of people living with neurological conditions. Riasat is also developing MoJoXlab movement analysis software to help physiotherapists and orthopaedic surgeons to monitor their patient's progress and to support better clinical decision making by using wearable sensors. His supervisory team includes Dr Simon Holland, Prof. Blaine Price and Dr Paul Mulholland. He is funded jointly by the Goldcrest Charitable Trust and The Open University.
Previously, he was a Research Assistant at Uppsala University working with the Department of Neuroscience and Division of Neuro-oncology. Prior to that, he has been a Research Intern at Intel's ICRI Cities while pursuing his Master's thesis at University College London Interaction Centre (UCLIC). His thesis was supervised by Dr Sarah Gallacher and Greg Jackson.
Additionally, he was a Visiting Lecturer at the School of Computer Science and Technology at University of Bedfordshire and if he gets some free time he usually spends that with Greentech Apps Foundation.
