Professional biography

 

Neil is a Lecturer in Work-based Learning in ICT, a post he has held since 2004. Prior to joining the Open University, Neil was employed in a variety of academic and educational management roles focused on the development and delivery of distance learning courses, materials and delivery systems. Neil is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Research interests

Neil's active research interests include investigating the relationship between educational technology and work-based learning and exploring the cognitive, conative and affective aspects of reflective practice. 

Teaching interests

Neil has developed teaching materials and approaches related to professionalism and professional practice, computing ethics, project and operations management, strategic business planning and life-wide learning. He has also developed a trans-disciplinary Foundation degree in Combined Professional Studies.

External collaborations

Neil is a member of the Tech Partnership Degrees Digital Apprenticeship Steering Group, which develops and accredits Degree Apprenticeships at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

 

Neil has served as an Academic Reviewer for OU-validated modules and awards delivered by the Arab Open University.

Neil is the Open University lead for the Erasmus Plus BELL Project, which aims to build the capacity of higher education institutions in Belarus to develop and deliver blended learning programmes using Moodle-based VLEs as the core learning platform.
